The local universities curriculum fits the local economy. Usually they prepare you to be competitive in the job market. The other positive is that the local universities is a continuation of the system of education you have been familiar with since you started 1st grade. Therefore it will not be a big shock. Give you an example, French universities curriculum for an engineer exceeds 30 hours a week in a classroom, mostly theoritical with no emphass in lab.
On the other hand, studying abroad is a great opportunity to learn about other languages and cultures. It is also a very important experience to have in this global economy. Employers love it and you will love too.
To sum it up, studying abroad will compliment your local education. It is a healthy mix to have to enjoy the experience of globalization fostered by the advance in communications and technology.
Look for programs that will achieve your goals. Ask yourself? Am I moving to Spain permanently or I just want to party? Do I want to learn the language or I just want to eat Paella? Do I want to understand the culture or I just want to get? Be honest with yourself and find the right program. You may need a 12 weeks program or a 4 years program .You may want to be in a real university or just a language school.
